SF Public Space Collective event participants walk the Laguna Honda Community Trail System on October 10th, 2026: See below for a recap!
Working with SFRPD and DPW for Better Public Spaces
At our August 30 gathering, we began to explore our experiences working with the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department (SFRPD) and San Francisco Public Works (DPW). Participants shared successes, challenges, and lessons learned, helping identify common themes across a wide range of public space projects.
On November 14, we'll continue that conversation by taking a deeper dive into how community groups interact with these agencies. Together, we'll share effective approaches, identify common pain points, and discuss opportunities for stronger collaboration.
Following the session, we'll compile key takeaways and recommendations to share with SFRPD and DPW, helping inform future conversations about how community organizations and city agencies can work together more effectively to steward and improve San Francisco's public spaces.
Whether you're part of a park group, trail organization, neighborhood association, community garden, or another public-space effort, we'd love to have you join us.
Location: Potrero Branch Library

October Recap: Laguna Honda Community Trail Walk
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our October Laguna Honda Community Trail System walk. The event brought together public space advocates from across San Francisco for an afternoon of conversation, connection, and shared learning as we explored one of the city's unique open spaces. Special thanks to Matthew Blain and SF Urban Riders for spearheading and hosting such a successful gathering. Building on that strong turnout and the relationships formed there, we're excited to gather again on November 14.
In community,
